Our Credentials
We do not believe in advertising superlatives. We believe in documented depth. The following is a factual account of what our attorneys bring to your engagement.
Advanced Legal Education
Our attorneys hold the LL.M. (Master of Laws), the highest level of specialized legal education available in the American legal system. This is not a certification, a designation, or a continuing education course. It is a post-doctoral law degree requiring a full program of study beyond the three years of the Juris Doctor.
Robert W. Boland, Jr., J.D., LL.M.
LL.M. in Taxation, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. Rob’s advanced study encompassed federal income taxation, estate and gift taxation, partnership taxation, corporate taxation, tax procedure, and tax controversy. His LL.M. training is complemented by decades of applied tax practice at the highest level, including service as an adjunct professor in UMKC’s own Tax LL.M. program, where he taught the next generation of tax attorneys the discipline he had spent his career mastering.
Grant M. Boland, J.D., LL.M.
LL.M. in Estate Planning and Elder Law, Western New England University School of Law. Grant’s post-doctoral work focused on advanced estate planning theory, wealth transfer strategy, fiduciary law, elder law, and the intersection of tax and trust disciplines that defines this firm’s practice. His training provides a complementary depth to the firm’s taxation expertise, ensuring that every planning engagement is informed by both the tax architecture and the estate planning structure simultaneously.
Court Admissions and Litigation Capability
- Supreme Court of Arizona
- United States Tax Court
- United States District Court, District of Arizona
Our attorneys do not merely design plans. They defend them. Admission to the U.S. Tax Court means that the same counsel who designed your estate plan, structured your entities, and coordinated your wealth transfer strategy is qualified to represent you if the IRS challenges any of those positions. This continuity between planning and defense is rare, and it produces work product that is designed from the outset to withstand scrutiny.

Two Generations of Focused Practice
Boland Law Group was founded by Robert W. Boland, Jr. and has been led by the Boland family since its inception. The practice now spans two generations of attorneys, each holding advanced LL.M. credentials, each dedicated exclusively to estate planning, trust law, wealth transfer taxation, and closely held business planning.
This continuity produces something that cannot be assembled from scratch: institutional memory. We hold the history of our clients’ planning decisions, the reasoning behind every structure, and the family context that shaped each choice. Many of our client relationships began with the wealth creators and now continue with their children and grandchildren. That kind of continuity is not a marketing claim. It is the lived reality of how this firm operates.
Practice Focus
This firm practices estate planning, trust law, wealth transfer taxation, tax controversy, business succession planning, and business and corporate law for closely held companies. That is all we do. We do not practice personal injury, criminal defense, immigration, family law, or general commercial litigation.
The depth of our expertise is a direct consequence of the narrowness of our focus.
